Mangaluru, Dec 19: Dakshina Kannada District Tourism Development Committee has been given permission to start cruise restaurants at Sultan Battery and Old Port on the bank of River Phalguni. This was stated by the minister for tourism and silk, Sa Ra Mahesh.
The minister, in a written reply furnished in response to question raised by MLC, Ivan D'Souza, in the legislative council, added that the union government has released Rs 19.13 crore out of Rs 95.67 crore sanctioned under the 'Swadesh Darshan' scheme. This scheme aims at developing tourist facilities in tourist destinations located on the seashore in Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts.

The minster also added that the central tourism ministry has given its nod for projects worth Rs 50 crore to develop facilities like connecting roads, seating facility, watch tower etc in important beaches in coastal Karnataka. Out of this, the first installment of ten crore rupees has been already released, he explained.
