Udupi, Dec 16: A Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting held in zilla panchayat auditorium here on Saturday, December 15, demanded action against unauthorised stone quarries operating in the district and their closure. The meeting was chaired by zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu.

Zilla panchayat standing committee president Babu Shetty who took up the topic said that unauthorised stone quarries are operating in Kundapur. “Therefore, government loses crores of royalty from them. Some of them are in forest land. Those are operating without any precautionary measures. Therefore, suitable action should be taken against them,” he said.

“If bore wells are dug under Ganga Kalyana project, electricity connections to them get delayed. Beneficiaries are facing hardship because of that. Therefore, concerned corporation and Mescom should take up joint action in this respect.

“Kindi dams constructed by small irrigation department have become defunct without maintenance. Therefore a committee of consumers should be formed in Kindi dam limits and the maintenance should be handed over to them.

“When government school teachers go on long leave, teachers from other schools deputed there do not attend classes, causing problems for teaching. The education department should avoid it and apply suitable procedures for their transfer,” said zilla panchayat standing committee president Udaya Kotian.

“Tenders for 14 works are called in Udupi under Paschima Vahini project,” said small irrigation department official in the meeting.

Zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu asked to take measures to set right lapses holding meetings of students in hostels in backward class, minorities and social welfare department limits every now and then.

Zilla panchayat chief executive Sindhu B Roopesh asked officials to complete works within stipulated period under special unit and backward class project schemes and a report should be sent to social welfare department every month.

“Rs 25,000 subsidy is received for every gram panchayat to improve computerisation and e-services. Therefore, gram panchayats should start working towards it. Zilla panchayat chief project officer Nagesh Raikar asked to make sure that honorarium to gram panchayat members are deposited to their bank accounts under treasury number 2.

Zilla panchayat vice-president Sheela K Shetty, standing committee president Shashikanth Padubidri and officials of different departments were present.
