Banks likely to be closed for 5 days from December 21

New Delhi, Dec 15: The news that banks will be closed for five days in December has become a matter of discussion. It is said that banks will be closed for five days due to protests, festivals and weekend holidays.

Bank officers and employees have decided to go on countrywide protests separately. The All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) has given strike call on December 21 against Indian Banks' Associations move to leave officers in scale IV and above out of the bipartite wage settlement ambit.

As December 22 is fourth Saturday of the month, bank has a holiday. December 23 is Sunday and December 25 has a holiday for Christmas.

Union Forum of Bank Employees (UFBU) has called for protests on December 26. Therefore, banks will not function for five days.

    Strike from work is an act of peacefull protest, which is very much available to every citizen of this country in case of any injustice. Wages of bank employees are due for revision every 5 years and the latest one due is since 1-11-2017 and last such revision was done as on 1-11-2012. Those who are commenting against banks , are you not aware about rising level of prise? If ur in business are u charging same price to ur customer as 2012? Bankers are demanding reasonable wage settlement which is just and right. In case ur not aware of facts, please talk to one... Don't make baseless remarks! Why don't u question when state government or central government employees get hefty salary hikes in the name of 6th or 7th pay commission? Are u not aware or you don't have daring to ask such questions.

    Come and work in bank for one month, you will understand why suicides are increasing among bankers, what are the issues they encounter... Needless to mention bankers are also made to do non banking work such as pension, aadhaar enrollment, water bill , Jan dhan, demonatisatio. ...that this and list goes on...

    National, probably U R right that six million Indians work in the Gulf. But do not forget these 6million Indians r remitting a staggering figure of $80 billions to India in the year 2018 to increase our foreign exchange thus helps the Indian Government to offset the balance of payment very easily!

    It is their right to go on strike if they feel injustice has done to them. But it is not in the interest of common people to go on strike for every silly selfish reasons as running of bank sector is very important to all sections of people for their daily activities. It is high time to ban all the unnecessary strikes bands and holidays by an ordinance as more productive days wasted affecting all business and educational institutions.

    That is why in India we don't call employees as slaves. They have rights, they can demand, they can protest. In gulf it's depend on king's mood. He can throw outsiders any time out. He can charge VAT when ever he likes. Slaves can't protest.

    We will definitely return as and when our primary objectives are met.

    If a situation in our own country was created / feasible for survival, why on earth would the 6 billion Indians leave their homeland and come to the Gulf for a living?

    Remember, we are working for YOU too, just not for ourselves. The remittances sent back to India coupled with OUR hardwork, sincerity and toil RUNS THE ECONOMY of India which is so very important for the basic infrastructure (atleast) required to run the economy. You residing in Karkala, or any other state of the country just contribute a meagre peanut (like a drop of water in the ocean) to keep the economy ticking. Imagine, Indian economy would have fallen face flat on the ground till now had it not been for the Gulf expatriates.

    Let me add :

    "Remittances from non-resident Indians (NRIs) are projected to touch an all-time high in 2018, according to a World Bank report released last week. India will receive nearly $80 billion (Rs5.7 lakh crore) of overseas remittances this year—a 16% leap from last year's $69 billion."

    In addition to the above, one can easily understand the impact of business generated in the Indian economy by NRIs directly and indirectly, which also includes payment of taxes on goods and services to the Indian economy.

    Given the pathetic way Modi is running the economy, and the free fall of INR, one need not be a great economist to know, what would have been the fate of Indian economy without the remittances of NRIs in the first place.

    We can't help because some people are habitual bhakths, and at the same time are very bitter about NRIs for no reason whatsoever. These people don't even have a single formula to create jobs for every unemployed, poor Indians, which is the main cause of migration of the Indian diaspora at large.

    India could be a much better place, if Indians realize and put to good use the good will of every patriotic NRIs.

Our government at the moment is getting a staggering remittance of about $ 75-80 billions per year! Do U think our government is capable of paying huge amount of oil import bills with our negligible export payments received?

    Prabhu mam yes india will face great difficulty without foreign remittances and for sure many will lose jobs due to such remittances stop flowing in to India. You have to study economics and fiNance of how world economy is connected each other. It is not a frying golibaje and selling in a small village and sit around and discuss congress or bjp and bad mouth about others faith. Foreign. Remittance and foreign business in India all of you benifit directly or indirectly. Let me explain when I visit india on every year one person. Myself spend dollar 8 thousand who benifits out of it. Think about millions of people do that same who benifits. Stop calling people working in foreign nations as slaves. Some one pointed in the disicussions. U guys are just simply become a slaves of political parties. Be a gentleman. Don't support corruption and it's leaders.

    What you said is right. The two frogs are from Karkala Anekere and Ramasamudra. They don't know that beyond these two ponds there is Arabian sea and Indian ocean in close proximity to Karkala. Every time these frogs make undue noise on hearing the word Gulf. The probable reason is their failure in getting visa to gulf.

    Those days will always be there. You can laugh as much as you want. You are laughing at the 6 million people spread all over the region.

    I guess you have been in India for a very long time now.

    Why don't you for once come down
    to the Gulf and find out for yourself the difference between "Gulf slave" and being a so called self-slave of your ownself. You have to apply your self. Then itself you will see a vast difference - which I'm sure you may have not even thought or dreamt of. I'm sure even if we're slaves (as you think), at least we are the most HIGHLY respected in the midst of various nationalities. They treat us with dignity and appreciate our work. That itself makes me proud and encourages me to move forward. I have the guts to lift my head up... unfortunately, even within the country, fanatics like you don't even know how to care for one another and treat your own people with respect.

    That's why India did not develop much even after 71 years of democratic governance and freedom from the colonial rule in comparison to all the Gulf countries what they have achieved in last 4- 5 decades. Look at the state of affairs of Karkala town itself, what development it has seen in last seven decades. Even for the next century nothing much is going to change because of your kind of mind set.

    Frogs in the well cannot imagine, the impact on sinking Indian banking sector without the remittances from NRIs, in any given financial year.

    Having more than 2 decades in Banking abroad, i can easily say Indian banking is reduced to too many holidays, demonetization, strikes, NPAs, big borrowers fleeing India, poor performance of bank employees, interference by Central govt. in RBI which led to the resignation of its honorable Governor too.

    Credit rating of Indian banks is below international standards.
