Mangaluru, Dec 15: Now that Lok Sabha elections are a few months away, political activities have become brisk in the district. Member of Legislative Council Ivan D’ Souza said that he is desirous of contesting in next Lok Sabha elections. “I am one of the ticket aspirants. I will contest if the high command gives me a ticket,” he said.

Speaking in a press meet in city on Saturday, December 15, Ivan informed that minority voters are in large number in Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency. “Therefore there is nothing wrong in me asking a ticket,” he said.

“Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary also has expressed his desire to contest. I welcome if the high command gives him a ticket. I will work for the party in such a case,” he said.

    What a pathetic way to request for a ticket. Firstly, no man is bigger than a part. Secondly, Ivan should have been talking development, strategy, vision for the constituency rather than going into the unfortunate mindset of minority votebank.

    Do not blame the BJP for talking religion when the great old national parties even earleir di the same since independence.

    After Gujarat, Mangalore and Udupi are most religiously polarized districts, somewhat like Talibani mindset! Sad but true.
    Therefore if winning an election is the aim, then better to give ticket to candidate acceptable to vast majority, because here credibility, ability and performance doesn't work!
    Voters are voting on the basis of religion!

    Still India is developing country and most of the voters are uneducated or not had the opportunity to travel or to come out of the cast and religion based politics, So it is best for Congress & Janata Dal (S) to have a popular and secular Bunt with last name Hegde or Shetty as a candidate to defeat undereducated/not performing Nalin Katel Shetty and Anant Kumar Hegde.

    Minority candidate like Lobo, Ivan, Kader etc,. are hard working efficient educated, grate organizers and grate asset to the party so, they should be nominated in record numbers for Rajya Saba or Legislative council.

    Mr. Lobo for MLC or Rajya Sabha member instead of Ivan or Oscar....since Lobo is best person to bring development. Immaterial of his efficiency and ability....being a non-hindu it could be tough one to win election considering the work he has done last 5 years tenure and having lost against hinduthwa wave though winners contribution is no where near Lobo's in comparison!

    We need some one can deal in Multi language(English and Hindi) in national level for the better progress in the region instead just playing religion card. There is no output from Naleen since he became a MP.
