Bantwal boy Nikhil Poojary in national football team

Bantwal, Dec 15: Local boy Nikhil Poojary has been chosen for upcoming AFC Asian football tournament. He was born in Muruva, Kedila village and is staying with his father Chandrashekar Poojary, mother Mamatha and younger brother Vinil Poojary in Mumbai.

Nikhil's name finds mention in the preparatory camp of 34 members for the tournament. Nikhil has already played for Indian team six times and has scored a goal. The team has star striker Sunil Chetri, Udanta Singh, goal keeper Gurupreeth Singh Sandhu, Nishu Kumar, Subhashish Bose, G G Lalpekluva and 18 members below 23 years of age. The tournament will be held from January 5 to February 1.

Nikhil is also the nephew of Kedila grama panchayat member, Umesh Poojary. Nikhil’s younger brother, Vinil Poojary, too has been making a mark in league level and is ambitious of getting a position in national football team.

Though Nikhil was brought up at Mumbai, he has not forgotten his mother tongue Tulu. He is very fond of his hometown.
