Kasargod, Dec 15: Two groups clashed with each other at 9 pm on Friday December 14 at Kunjathur near Manjeshwar, Kerala.
Initially the groups pelted stones at each other, after which they tossed soda bottles. Several from both the groups were injured in this incident.
As soon as the fight began, shops and business establishments began to down their shutters. The police team, which learnt about the incident, rushed to the spot. The police personnel resorted to caning the crowd and also used tear gas shells to disperse them. District superintendent of police, Dr A Srinivas, Kumble police circle
inspector, Manjeshwar station house officer and others camped at the village to supervise the law and order situation.
Tight security has been arranged in and around Kunjathur. The annual 'Bhootha Bali' festival of Lord Mahalingeshwara temple Kunjathur is beginning today. The police said that a group of devotees was engaged in making preparations like decorations, building welcome arch etc on Friday night when a gang attacked them, resulting in this incident.
