Mangaluru, Dec 14: The construction work of newly built MPRL-ONGC anniversary wing Lady Goschen hospital is almost completed which was underway for the past seven years. The equipment of the new hospital have been installed and the process for shifting patients will be done on December 17.
The functioning of the new hospital building is in full swing. Fumigation of the building has been done by the pest control, the cultural report will arrive on December 14 and as per the direction of deputy commissioner, the shifting of patients will be done on December 15 or 17.
Lady Goschen has a vast history of 170 years. There were frequent complaints from the public regarding the pathetic condition of the hospital. Lokayukta had visited the hospital on June 22 and on November 23 earlier this year, followed by commissioner of health department who visited the hospital and directed to shift the set-up to new building at the earliest.
At the basement of the new building, provision has been made for parking and generator. While pharmacy, out-patient ward, health Karnataka department, help desk, lab, X-Ray, scanning are functioning on the ground floor, LT, OT, and NICU section is on the first floor and other equipment are installed in the third, fourth and the fifth floors.
Helping hand from public
Several people came forward and lend their helping hand for the new building. Drinking water unit worth Rs 5 lac was donated by Dilip Jain from Micro Electricals, Dr U V Shenoy from Seva Bharathi trust donated delivery berth and other equipment worth Rs 14 lac, and Dr Shantharam Baliga donated chairs for NICU worth Rs 60,000. Still the new hospital is in need of computers, tables, rack, chairs, shoe rack etc.
Contribution from MRPL
The five storeyed building of new Lady Goschen hospital was constructed under the aegis of MRPL, which donated Rs 21.70 crore and Rs 10 crore was sanctioned from National Health Mission. Internal and external electrification, two generators, HVAC, two lifts, fire fighting system, OT, ICU, and NICU have been installed. Further, MRPL will donate Rs 1.5 crore in which Rs 89 lac will be used for ICU cot, other cots, attender cots, stools, berthing belt and other equipment. Remaining Rs 60 lac will be used for bed sheets and other materials for which the tender process is going on.
On May 30, MRPL had released Rs 5.76 crore following an appeal made by the deputy commissioner. The permission has been granted by the deputy commissioner for the construction of medical gas pipeline and other pending works.
Foundation stone laid twice
In the year 2011, an Andhra based businessman had promised to donate Rs 18 crore for which foundation stone was laid by the then chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. But the firm could not deliver the promises then. For the second time, foundation stone was laid by the then chief minister Jagadish Shettar and minister Veerappa Moily. Rs 21.70 crore was donated by MRPL. Since last one year, the dates for inauguration were announced and postponed for various reasons.
