Udupi, Dec 14: Nehru youth center of Government of India in Udupi which has been presenting awards for best youth group every year, has selected Nandalike Abbanadka Friends Club for the award this year. The award consisting of Rs 25 thousand cash and a certificate was presented to the club recently.
Udupi district panchayat president Dinaker Babu inaugurated the programme held in Pragathi Saudha, Udupi and presented the award recently.
State president of Nehru Youth Center Sunil Malik, Udupi Nehru Youth Center district youth coordinator Wilfred D’Souza, district panchayat officer Negesh Raikar, Corporation Bank Udupi general manager Dalia A Dias, Dharmastala rural development project officer Ashok and Mamatha, Inna gram panchayat member Deepak Kotian, Udyavar gram panchayat member Mithesh Poojary, Nandalike – Abbanadka Durgaparameshwari Friends Club president Rajesh Kotian Nandalike, convener Abbanadka Sandeep V Poojary, founder president Vittal Moolya and others were present.
The club was established on October 2, 2000 by three members on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. It has 40 members across religions at present. It has handed over scholarships for hundreds of students, felicitated special achievers, extended monetary help to the sick, differently abled and the weak, voluntary service during temple fairs, distribution of saplings, vanamahotsava, cricket tournaments, sports festival, rural sports tournaments, Kabaddi competitions, Volleyball tournaments, cultural programme, Yakshagana, Tulu comedy dramas, dance recitals, celebration of national festivals, celebration of anniversaries of national and spiritual leaders, leadership training camp, pulse polio programme, quiz, drawing and has indulged in social work in various forms.
