Bantwal, Dec 13: Street vendors at Farangipet opposed the railway officials, who arrived to evict the shops located at the road side of Farangipet Junction here on Thursday, December 13.
Several street vendors are running their business of fruits, vegetables, fish and chicken in this area. But the land belongs to the railway department. Railway department had issued notices to the street vendors and gave one week time to vacate the place.
Even after one week, the street vendors did not clear the place. On the morning of Thursday, the Railway department officials arrived at the spot and started forcibly evicting the shopkeepers with the help of policemen.
Agitated at the move of the railway officials, the street vendors and gram panchayat president Ramlan refused to evict the shops, which created a lot of tension at the spot. Due to confusion, Railway officials gave one more hour's time for the street vendors to vacate the shops on their own. Few of them vacated the place while the rest continued their opposition and began to do business besides the road.
Bantwal rural police arrived at the spot and tightened the security.
