Belagavi, Dec 13: The state government has decided to set up a separate office for execution of ‘Smart City’ project.

During question hour in Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa made the suggestion that officials, who are handling Smart City projects, were multi-tasking and therefore they were going on behind schedule.
Housing and urban development minister U T Khader, in reply, said that he would take steps to set up separate office exclusively for ‘Smart City’ projects.

The question was raised by K S Eshwarappa on government's progress in implementing the ‘Smart City' programme in Belagavi, Davanagere, Hubballi-Dharwad, Shivamogga, Mangaluru, Tumakuru and Bengaluru.

Khader said the Union government had released Rs 886 crore and the state government too released a matching Rs 886 crore for the Smart City projects in the state.

Eshwarappa said the nodal officer in Shivamogga was Commissioner of Corporation as well as Chairman of Malnad Development Board as well as nodal officer for ‘Smart City’ programme. Besides, there are a lot of rules, prohibiting execution of programmes above Rs 10 lac, he added.
