Mangaluru: Karavali Utsava from Dec 21 to 30 with many new attractions

Mangaluru, Dec 11: "The 10-day annual Karavali Utsav will be held from December 21 to 30 at Karavali Utsava Maidan, Kadri Park and Panambur Beach," informed deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.

Addressing the gathering here on Tuesday, December 12, Sasikanth Senthil said, "The Karavali Utsava will be inaugurated by renowned music director Gurukiran. District in-charge minister U T Khader, tourism minister Mahesh, Udupi district in-charge minister Dr Jayamala, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Bharath Y Shetty, Rajesh Naik, Harish Poonja, Umanath Kotian, Sanjeev Matandoor, MLC Ivan D'Souza, Mayor Bhaskar Moily and others will grace the occasion,”



"Prior to the inauguration, a grand procession will be carried out from Nehru Maidan to Karavali Utsava ground. Utsava will be flagged off by district in-charge minister U T Khader and he will also inaugurate exhibition at Kadri Park," said DC Senthil.

Giving further details, Sasikanth said, "On December 27 and 28, Youth festival will be held at Kadri Park, where young budding talents will exhibit their talents with various performances. Audition for this festival will be held on December 18 at Town Hall. Students selected in the audition will perform at the Youth festival. Auditions for beach festival performance will be held on December 17 at Town Hall,"

Theme-based Karavali Utsava

Sasikanth Senthil said, "Karavali Utsava this year will be theme-based and new attractions will be added to this 10-day fest. Karavali Utsava theme for this year will be the old Mangaluru's heritage, culture and history. Karavali Utsava can make people to go back to their past with this theme. Entire Karavali Utsava will revolve around aspect of olden Mangaluru,”

River Festival

"In order to activate the back water and rivers, a river festival will be conducted after Karavali Utsava on January 11 and 12. This is a new concept where we are reviving the river system. Lot of activities such as Rowing, Kayaking and other sports will be conducted.  We do not have river culture and access to enjoyment at the river in this region. So it is necessary to introduce a new concept of river festival," informed Senthil.

Sports Meet

The DC further said, "As a part of Karavali Utsav, a sports meet will be conducted on December 28 and 29 at Don Bosco Hall and Karavali Utsav ground. Dakshina Kannada district level handball tournament and Lagori tournament will be organised at Karavali Utsava ground on December 28 and weight lifting competition for men and women will be conducted on December 29 at Don Bosco Hall,”

Beach Festival

"As a part of Karavali Utsava, beach festival will be held from December 28 to 30 at Panambur beach. Various programmes such as beach volleyball, food festival, dance competition, sand art, kite festival, surfing, stand up paddling, Zumba dance work out are lined up at the beach festival," said Sasikanth Senthil.

"There will be live performance too by music director Manikantha Kadri on December 30 at Panambur beach" he added.

Karavali Utsava will conclude on December 30 at Panambur beach. Additional deputy Commissioner Kumar and Yathish Baikampady were present.
