Bengaluru, Dec 8: Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah countered PM Modi for his comment on widows and said that the latter should not forget that his mother is also a widow.
Modi's jibe 'Congress widow' has sparked a controversy with Congress claiming PM Modi has insulted Sonia Gandhi by calling her a widow.
On Saturday, Siddaramaiah took to Twitter and said that PM Modi had insulted the whole community of women by mocking widows. "He should not forget that his mother is also a widow. Modi is spreading hatred and I pray that he will be out of such mentality soon."
It may be recalled that during an election rally in Rajasthan, PM Modi in an apparent jibe at former Congress president Sonia Gandhi had said, "Why is Naamdaar worried? Why can't Congress members sleep? There's a reason. Each step that Modi is taking, is causing closure of all their shops one by one. Congress ran a government that a girl who wasn't born, who never took birth, was turned into a widow on Congress government documents. The girl became a widow and even started getting a pension. Who were these widows who took this money? Which Congress widow was this whose bank account received this money?”
