Mangaluru, Dec 6: Lady Goschen Hospital here, which was badly in need of funds to improve its infrastructure, has finally got the grant it needed. With the efforts of people's representatives from the region, MRPL-ONGC has sanctioned an additional grant of Rs 5.7 crore to the hospital.
The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the hospital, which witnesses about 6,000 childbirths every year, was not able to provide good service to patients because of shortage of equipment. Doctor of the hospital, Dr Kiran Baliga, had urged MLA, Vedavyas Kamath through a WhatsApp message a few days back, informing about the large number of childbirths handled by the hospital and the fact that the hospital is in urgent need for equipment in NICU.
Kamath had responded by way of message, asking the doctor to personally speak to him and explain about the problems faced.
Dr Kiran Baliga later met the MLA and informed him about the problems personally. The MLA and MP immediately wrote to MRPL-ONGC seeking additional financial assistance to the hospital. They have succeeded in convincing the company to part with Rs 5.7 crore grant.
MRPL-ONGC had provided funds to the new building of Lady Goschen Hospital out of its corporate social responsibility fund. It has now met the needs of the hospital by way of providing equipment and furniture, paucity of which was creating lot of problems for the doctors and the patients alike.
