New Delhi, Nov 26: Air India and Jet Airways have cancelled their flights to Bangkok till Thursday, as four of their flights were diverted on Wednesday after anti-government protesters in Thailand stormed the Suvarnabhumi International Airport disrupting flight operations there.
The airport will remain closed till 1800 hours (local time) on Wednesday, a Thai airport spokesperson was quoted as saying by his Air India counterpart here.
The spokespersons of both carriers said they had decided to cancel all flights to the Thai capital till Thursday evening in view of the airport closure.
Air India's cancelled flights are IC-853 from Delhi, IC-693 from Mumbai and IC-737 from Chennai. Air India Express flight IX-922 from Kolkata to Chennai has also been cancelled as also the corresponding return flights from Bangkok, an airline spokesperson said.
Two Air India flights to Bangkok, one from Delhi (IC-853) and another from Mumbai (IC-693), were diverted this morning and had landed at Utapao airport. The passengers were then transferred by road to Bangkok.
The return flights from Bangkok, IC-854 and IC-694 have taken off from Utapao and are expected to arrive at Delhi and Mumbai respectively tonight, he said.
A Jet Airways spokesperson said the private carrier's flights would also remain cancelled till tomorrow evening.
Its flights from the two cities to Bangkok, 9W-064 and 9W-062, were today diverted back to Kolkata, from where they returned to their originating points in Delhi and Mumbai, the spokesperson said.
