Udupi, Nov 21: School children should be provided health education along with studies, said Dr H Ashok, district AIDS control officer. He was speaking at the scholarship distribution programme, organized by the Hadinalu Patna Mogaveera Mahajan Sangh, Pitrody, Udyavar, near here, recently.
Scholarships were awarded to 60 deserving students. The district unit of AIDS control has been committed to curb the rising number of HIV positive cases by creating special awareness among teenage students, opined Dr Ashok.
Sanjeev G Salian, president, Hadinalu Patna Mogaveera Mahajana Sangh, said that the fisheries community should not restrict themselves to their traditional profession and instead aspire for higher studies to reach top posts in administration.
B Anand Putran, entrepreneur from Mangalore, was the chief guest. T K Bangera, Sangh treasurer, Sridar Mendon, lineage trustee, and Sadarama Mendon, were present on the dais.Community elder U Anand Mendon delivered the introductory address.
Vasudev Salian compered the programme and chief secretary Chandrashekar Kanchan proposed the vote of thanks.
