Bangalore, Nov 19: On Monday November 17, the JD(S) workers, who were fully geared up for the mega convention of the party held in Bangalore on the occasion of taking over charge by the newly nominated state president of the party H D Kumaraswami, assaulted ex-minister C Channigappa who had deserted the party and joined the BJP recently.
When the JD(S) convention was on, Channigappa incidentally was passing through that road, when he was attacked near Mekhri Circle in front of the guest house of ex-chief minister H D Kumaraswami. Around 20 JD(S) workers intercepted his car and beat up both Channigappa and his driver. They dragged Channigappa out of the car and rained blows on him, causing injuries to his head, shoulders and chest. Later, Channigappa got treatment at Mallige Nursing Home in the city.
Speaking to reporters later, Channigappa said that a gang of about 20 people assaulted him and beat him up. "The assaulters robbed me of my wrist watch and other belongings. If the policemen had not intervened in time, I would have been murdered," he alleged. Channigappa also charged the JD(S) of getting transformed into a party of rowdies.
