Kundapur: Five injured as car gets sandwiched between tipper, truck

Kundapur, Nov 12: A Maruti 800 car which got stuck between a tipper and truck on Herikudru bridge near here on Sunday November 11 suffered extensive damage. Five persons seated inside the car suffered serious injuries.

The car which was moving towards Murudeshwar from the direction of Udupi was nudged by a tipper from the rear. Due to the force with which the tipper came in contact with its trunk, the car stopped after taking a u-turn. A truck that was going towards Kundapur from Byndoor hit the car, inflicting huge damage to the car. Asha (26), Vasanti (43), Gayatri (47), Shivaram Achar (54) and Sriniva Achar (62), all from Indrali, Udupi, who were inside the car, suffered serious injuries. They were going to Murudeshwar to take part in a marriage function there.

The car was badly mangled, and injured passengers got struck inside. Bringing them out of the car proved to be very difficult but the locals worked together to help them out of the car and also to take them to hospital. The police later said that all the injured were out of danger. Traffic on the highway was blocked for sometime because of this accident.
