Kasargod, Nov 9: "All efforts being made by the leftist government of Kerala headed by Pinarayi Vijayan to implement in Toto the Supreme Court's verdict on Sabarimala that was delivered without taking into account the sentiments of the devotees, will not succeed," predicted former chief minister of Karnataka, B S Yeddyurappa.
He was speaking after inaugurating Sabarimala Protection Rath Yatra' launched by the National Democratic Alliance coalition in Kerala at Lord Madanantheshwara Siddivinayaka temple at Madhur in the district on Thursday November 8.
Yeddyurappa blamed Kerala government for inciting the people in the matter of allowing entry of women into Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa shrine. He called upon the state government to wake up to the popular opinion of the people in general, file appeal against the verdict in the Supreme Court and solve the issue.
"Tipu Sultan had demolished several temples in Kerala coast. He also had attacked the temple at Madhur. In spite of bitter truths like these, Karnataka government unfortunately has stuck to its decision to go ahead with celebration of Tipu Jayanti," he lamented.
BJP district unit president, K Srikanth, honoured Yeddyurappa by draping a shawl around him. Karnataka leader of the opposition in legislative council, Kota Srinivas Poojary, predicted that Kerala is set to be transformed with the religious sentiments of the people getting recognized. He felt that governments should desist from taking decisions which hurt the faith of the people in religious and belief systems. He felt that this problem would not have arisen if the state government had put forth affective arguments in the Supreme Court.
Veteran BJP MLA, O Rajagopal, presided over the programme. BJP Kerala state unit president and advocate, P S Sridharan Pillai, who is leading the Rath Yatra, convener of BDJS, Tushar Vellapalli, Raveesh Tantry Kuntaru, K Surendran, and P K Krishnadas spoke on the occasion.
