Mangalore, Nov 15: Over a thousand children hailing from various schools within and outside the city celebrated the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minsiter of the country, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, in a meaningful way, on the occasion of the 'Children's Day' on Friday November 14.
The children, attired in the Sevadal uniforms, gathered in the compound of the Corportion Bank head office at Pandeshwar in the city and raised slogans hailing the late Prime Minister. After the national flag was hoisted and prayer was rendered, the children went to the Nehru Park where they showered flower petals on the statue of their beloved Chacha Nehru.
Freedom struggler Vasudev Shenoy garlanded the statue. The children later took part in the all-religion prayer meet. In his introductory speech Bharat Sevadal working president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura reminisced the charming personality of Nehru, who was particularly interested in the welfare of the children. Corporation Bank general manager B R Bhat, who was the guest, wanted everyone to take care to ensure that the rights of children are always protected.
Sevadal central committee member Harikrishna Punarur, district organizer Manje Gowda, Mahesh Pattar, Janardan, Raghavendra Rao and others were present.
