Bengaluru, Nov 6: Dr G Parameshwar, DCM and home minister said that there is no opportunity to carry out any procession be it for or against on the Tipu Jayanti day.
Parameshwar held a meeting in connection with Tipu Jayanti with senior police officials including DGP Neelamani Raju on Monday, November 5 at the Vidhana Soudha.
Directing the police officers, DCM said "On November 10, any programme connected with Tipu Jayanti should be held only inside the auditorium. No banners or flexes should be displayed. If anyone tries to derogate Tipu on social sites, take necessary action."
In addition, Parameshwar also asked the police to be alert as there is a possibility that the opposition BJP may carry out a protest on the occasion. After discussion with the senior police officials, DCM spoke to the media and said that the Tipu Jayanti will be celebrated in Bengaluru at Ravindra Kalakshetra instead of the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha.
One more PIL filed against Tipu Jayanti
One more Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed at the high court asking for cancellation of the order sent by the Kannada and Cultural Department of the state government to celebrate the Tipu Jayanti. K P Manjunath, a resident of Haisoldoor in Madikeri, who had filed a PIL in 2017 with regards to the same subject, has filed one more petition this year also. In his application, Manjunath has requested the court to cancel the order sent by Kannada and Cultural Department on September 20, 2016.
Meaningful celebration in DK district, says DC
In a preliminary meeting that was held with regards to the celebration of Tipu Jayanti on November 10, Sasikanth Senthil, DC said, "All necessary actions will be taken to celebrate a meaningful Tipu Jayanti on November 10 at the Netravati auditorium of zilla panchayat under auspices of district administration and Kannada and Cultural department."
Notice served to 155 people in Madikeri
People have expressed outrage over the issuance of notice by the police to 155 people under Madikeri taluk limits. It is said that among the 155, there are innocent people also. This notice is served as per the direction of the state government to make sure that no untoward incident takes place on the day of Tipu Jayanti.
People who have received notice have to sign an undertaking in the presence of Tahasildar. However, the Tahasildar was not available in his office on Monday, November 5, when the notice holders arrived to sign the undertaking. Notice of disturbance of peace was also served to an 80-year-old man. The public has expressed their outrage at the state government saying that action is being taken on people who do not have any cases against them.
