Mangalore, Nov 15: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) temporarily suspended the permits of 11 auto rickshaws for allegedly charging exorbitant fares from passengers at the city railway station, without adhering to the meter reading.
The deputy commissioner’s (DC) office and RTO have received several complaints of auto drivers charging exorbitantly and behaving rudely. Therefore, the RTO began an investigation into the allegations and seized these 11 auto rickshaws.
Their permits have been suspended for 15 days. RTO authorities ordered the offenders to park their vehicles on the RTO campus. Meanwhile, the RTO has urged passengers to lodge a written complaint with the RTO or at Pandeshwar police station, if they come across such incidents. The complainant should give his name and address, registration number of the auto rickshaw, and the details of the journey, said RTO authorities.
RTO has assigned a special work force to the central railway station, KSRTC bus stand, Mangalore Junction railway station, Mulky railway station, and other key stations, to enforce traffic rules properly, sources informed.
