Mangaluru, Nov 2: Thieves burgled the house belonging to Naveen Gatti at Nirmala Extension at Ambika Road Layout's B Block. In the theft which happened in the wee hours on Thursday November 1, thieves entered the house through the rear door even as the family members were asleep and stole nine sovereigns of gold ornaments and Rs 1,000 in cash from the room where the people were sleeping.

Naveen, his wife, Usha and son, Chirag, were asleep in the bedroom of their house. Usha's mother, Vimala, was asleep in the next room. It is said that doors of both the rooms were open. The thieves took advantage of the fact that the door of the rear window was open. They sneaked in by putting their hand inside the window and moving the bolt of the rear door. They entered the room where the family was sleeping and took away a six-sovereign Karimani chain kept on the table, a three-sovereign chain kept in the showcase and Rs 1,000 found in a bag and purse of Chirag.

Usha happens to be an employee of Wenlock Hospital. On returning from a family function on Wednesday, the family went to bed after keeping the ornaments in the open. The thieves however left behind the rolled-gold bangles kept alongside the chain.

Ullal police sub-inspectors, Vinayak Torgal, Kurappa Kanti and others visited the spot and registered a case.
