Mangalore, Nov 12: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Passengers’ Service Committee on Wednesday November 12, asked district in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar to take a firm stand on nationalization of bus routes in Dakshina Kannada.
Welcoming the state government’s initiative to introduce KSRTC bus service in the district, the committee said it would create employment opportunities for about 3,000 people. Addressing media persons, P Keshava, honorary president of the committee, said KSRTC would provide better facilities than private buses. Students’ passes, monthly passes, daily passes, accident relief insurance, and other such facilities will attract passengers to government buses, he said.
Workers of private buses have no employment guarantee even though thee buses have been plying in the area for several decades. Employees have been deprived of facilities as specified in the rules of the department of employees, said Keshava.
Hanumanta Kamath, president, Nagarika Hitharaksana Vedike, said, "We want KSRTC buses on every route at any cost. Minister Palemar should have a firm stand on nationalization of bus routes. He should support transport minister R Ashok’s decision instead of delivering differing statements."
Srinivas Prabhu, Dharmendra, Nagesh P, Anand Haleyangady, Jayarama, Sanjiv Kanchan, and Sunder Naik, were present at the press meet.
