Mangaluru, Oct 27: During the police phone-in programme held on Friday October 26, a caller attracted the attention of the police to risks posed by auto rickshaws, Maruti vans etc which ferry students much in excess of their capacities. The caller said that in case of accidents, several lives can be lost at a time because of the precarious way in which these vehicles ply.
The programme was presided over by deputy commissioner of police (DCP - crime and traffic), Uma Prashanth, at the office of the police commissioner.
Responding to the complaint, the DCP recollected that in the past, police personnel, owners and drivers of vehicles etc were suitably instructed about the need to limit children being carried in the vehicles.
