Puttur, Oct 25: Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament (MP), Nalin Kumar Kateel, said that as per the demand of lorry drivers and owners, he had discussed the matter of allowing movement of trucks on Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 75 with the PWD minister, H D Revanna, and deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district. He said that H D Revanna has promised to check the facts and take suitable measures accordingly.
Kateel said that during the interaction he had with the deputy commissioner, he had brought to the notice of the latter about problems being faced by truck drivers because of ban placed on truck movement on Shiradi Ghat road. He added that the officer has responded positively. "A delegation of lorry drivers will meet the deputy commissioner on Thursday. As a whole, permission for movement of trucks on Shiradi ghat road will be obtained shortly," he explained.
Shiradi Ghat stretch of national highway 75 had been closed for concreting work since January this year. Thereafter, light vehicles have been allowed to move on this road. As trucks have not yet been allowed to use this road, lorry owners and drivers are facing extreme problems. A delegation of truck drivers led by Malnad Janahita Rakshana Vedike had met MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, on Tuesday and handed over a memorandum in this regard.
