Bengaluru, Oct 24: Swami Sri Nirmalananda, seer of the powerful Vokkaliga Adichunchanagiri Math, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Wednesday and reportedly discussed various issues.
The Vokkaliga Math seer is believed to have discussed even political developments in the state.
The Vokkaliga community’s seer met Modi along with BJP national president Amit Shah. It remains to be seen whether this meeting will help the BJP and weaken the JD(S) clout among the Vokkaligas.

The ruling JD(S) Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and JD(S) national president and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda have a strong following among the Vokkaligas, especially in the Old Mysuru region. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Shah called on Sri Nirmalananda Swami and sought the Math’s blessings to the BJP.
The meeting between Modi and the Vokkaliga community seer has given scope for various political interpretations ahead of the general elections 2019 as the BJP is unable to make its presence felt in the Vokkaliga strong belt unlike in the Lingayat predominant Northern Karnataka region where State BJP President and former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has a considerable following.
