Udupi, Oct 24: Padubidri police in the district, who have registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, have arrested two persons. The complaint relates sexual harassment of a minor girl and sending obscene messages to her cellphone.
The accused, Kumaraswamy (42), happens to be the village accountant of Hejamady gram panchayat. He hails from Mandya district. Another person, Kishori (35), who was an accomplice of the accused, also stands arrested.
Kumaraswamy, who was earlier posted in other gram panchayats in the district, had been posted to Hejamady a year back. The girl and her family members had approached the village accountant sometime back to file application to set right documents pertaining to their landed property. He had collected her cellphone number then. Kishori, who is said to be his assistant, acted like a mediator. He thereafter started sending obscene messages to the girl now and then. The girl told the parents. Even after the villagers reprimanded Kumaraswmay, he continued to harass the girl. Fed up, the girl came to the police station along with several villagers on Tuesday October 23 and filed a complaint, it is said.
