Bantwal, Oct 24: Five students who had gone to enjoy a swim in Netravati river water on Wednesday, October 24 were caught unawares by the sudden force of water released from AMR dam in Navoora gram panchayat limits.
As schools were closed due to Valmiki Jayanti, a group of eleven students from outside the taluk had been to the river to swim near Vishnumoorthi temple, in Navooru gram panchayat limits. Meanwhile, water from nearby Shambhoor AMR dam was released all of a sudden. Six students in the group who saw the rush and increasing level of water in the river, swam and reached the shore. But the remaining five students who could not swim, climbed on to a huge rock in the river.
The students, who reached the shore, screamed and raised alarm for help. Meanwhile, a group of locals, jumped into the river and rescued the stranded students with the help of a rope.
