Kochi: Bishop Franco case - special prosecutor may be appointed

Daijiworld Media Network

Kochi, Oct 23: A special prosecutor may be appointed to deal with the case registered against Bishop Franco Mulakkal, it is gathered.

‘Save our sisters’ (SOS) action council met Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan demanding the special prosecutor and it is said that they received a positive response.

They also requested the chief minister for a special court. They discussed the issue with MV Jayarajan, private secretary of the CM.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal

SOS approached the chief minister pointing out that delay in hearing will help the accused influence the witnesses and raise threat against the victim. They also explained the incident in which the priest Fr Kuriakose who gave statement against Franco was found dead in Jalandhar. He was the parish priest in Jalandhar diocese earlier and a rector of nuns. He was demoted to the position of a resident priest after giving statement against Franco.

The complainants requested to bring dead body of Fr Kuriakose to Kerala under the surveillance of police and to conduct autopsy.

SOS met speaker P Sreeramakrishnan and requested that the Assembly Ethics Committee must file a case against PC George. They will submit a plea to the committee chairman A Pradeep Kumar MLA based on the instruction of the Speaker. The complaint was given for insulting the aggrieved nun and her family in public.

Fr Agustin Vattoli, Shyju Antony, nun's sister and P Geetha met the CM and Speaker.

At a time when Law is taking its own course after the initial media trial that virtually condemned the Bishop Guilty even before the trial began, The Nuns are upping the Ante as it appears quite possible that they are following a planned narrative.

It would have been nice if they had left the Law to take its own course instead of trying first to influence the Police and Judiciary with the help of the media and now using the executive to influence the course of the Judiciaary.

Your comment highlights your frustration. Still you cannot accept the fact that the bishop too can commit a crime. The nun was totally helpless when her superior and church dignitaries turned deaf ears to her plight. Finally she was compelled to come out in the public and approach the police. It is the powerful bishop and his henchmen who tried to influence the police and the judiciary. Even the scoundrel MLA George came to the bishop’s rescue by calling the nun as prostitute. Be it in any field or community the weak and the poor always suffer at the hands of the rich and the powerful, which is quite evident in this case.

He’s upset and disappointed on hearing that a godly and holy man Franco is being called a criminal. But becomes happy when hears about Asaram Bapu or Grumit Ram Rahim. This is his fairness.

The Roman Catholic Chruch is going thru its worst crisis and no one tobe blamed for this except themselves. The church for centuries has been living in denial many of the crimes committed by its priests and the main reason for this is their strict code of celibacy. I dont know in which scriptures or even Gospel it is said that missionaries should not be married. This rule they brought it on themselves and today they pay a heavy price for hiding the truth and denying the mistakes some priests made that brought a bad name for the whole church.

what is most amazing is the way this bishop welcomed back by the very nuns whose counterparts in Kerala were offended by the this man. Perhaps they could have waited until the matter resolved and then take him in gracefully if he is not guilty. Unfortunately it showed a great disrespect to women and specially their own kind who were the victims of his doings. It also showed that majority of the clergy and convents still support this man but not the victim nuns. This is a huge mistake and perhaps will pose a question to all the faithful whether they do the right thing by following the church.

I hope and pray that in this case the guilty gets punished and the rightful will get their dignity back sooner than later not only for the good of those involved but also for the church.

please donot use name as Bishop and nun. Both parties free your selves from these titles. The right or wrong to both parties conscience is telling. You use Mr,mrs, kum, miss etc.if any of the party is wrong come out from the congregation. Sex ,rape, love vary in definition and practice. Use correct term and seek justice

No special court, no preferential treatment. Bishop need to be tried like any other defendant. Agitation leader Sr. Anupama has clearly stated that "Bishop was planning to file defamation case against Nuns, then we nuns decided take on him..."
