Dubai, Oct 22: In a bid to complete Dubai’s smart transformation goals by 2021, 100 service centres of 40 government entities offering 1,100 services in Dubai will not operate for a week from October 21 to 25, encouraging people to access these services online.
'Week without Service Centres' is an initiative of Dubai Government’s Department of Finance (DOF). The vast cross-government campaign promotes building the culture of smart transformation to online channels in delivering government services.
The campaign was previously held for a day on October 26, 2017 after being approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
This led to increase in government revenues via internet-based smart channels to 30 per cent and around 31,000 smart government transactions were completed for an amount of Dh55 million, compared to Dh42.2 million for transactions completed the preceding day.
Meanwhile, Dubai residents have appreciated the initiative as it saves time, money, energy and more importantly reduces traffic congestion.
An Indian residing in Dubai who has faced language barriers while approaching the centres says that now she can access the services from the comfort of her home. It will also encourage people to learn use services online, she adds.
