Bantwal, Oct 22: Thieves who entered a house by breaking open the bolt of the rear doors of two houses in the taluk at midnight, took away cash and gold ornaments worth lacs of rupees.
The two houses they targetted are located near P S Nagar in Iruvathur village, Edtoor Padavu in this taluk. The houses belong to Hasanabba and Isubu. The thieves burgled these houses on Saturday night.
The rear door of the two-storeyed house belonging to Hasanabba was broken. The thieves took away about 40 sovereign of gold ornaments kept inside an almirah in the room. It is said that these ornaments belonged to Hasanabba's daughter, who had come to her parental home on account of school holidays for her children. Her husband lives abroad.
The thieves also entered the house of Isubu near Hasanabba's house from the backside and took away about Rs 55,000 in cash kept inside. A cellphone of a nearby house was also stolen.
It is said that during the theft, family members of both the houses were deep asleep. Beltangady police circle inspector, Sandesh and Punjalkatte police visited the spot. Sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts also went there to help in investigation.
