Mangaluru, Oct 21: Bowled by the culinary skills of a Mangaluru cook, Haj and Wakf Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan has gifted him a pilgrimage to Mecca as well as left a tip of Rs 25,000 to the employees of the restaurant.
Khan who was in Mangaluru for an official review meeting on Thursday, went to ‘Fish Market’ restaurant in Lower Bendoor for lunch and was accompanied by Former MLA Mohiuddin Bawa and President of Wakf Committee UK Monu and other party workers.
Haneef Mohammed of Boliyar, who is a partner as well as the cook at Fish Market, got a shock of his life when the minister called for him. He then praised Haneef for serving him the delicious pomfret and Anjal, saying it was the best he has tasted till date. He then made Haneef sit next to him and fed him from his own plate.
The minister famed for his generosity, tipped Rs 20,000 to all the staff at the restaurant and Rs 5,000 to Haneef and also promised to send him for Umrah.
Haneef who was working in Gulf, joined Fish Market restaurant as a partner three years ago. “I have served many politicians including Rahul Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad. However, this is the best day of my 18 year profession life,” Haneef told media.
This is not the first time Khan has gone out the way to help people. He had recently gifted Rs 1 lakh to four youth who played prominent role in rescuing people during recent landslides at Jodupala. He has also done a personal contribution of Rs 10 lakh to Snehadeep, a home that cares for AIDS-affected children.
