Kundapur, Oct 17: A man who was assaulted by a gang for non-payment of compound interest on loan borrowed by him three years ago, wrote a death note and attempted suicide here.
The incident came to light at Rameshwaranagar, Aloor gram panchayat limits on Tuesday morning, October 16. The person who attempted suicide is identified as Rameshwaranagar resident Ragahavendra Joshi (35), son of Mahabala Joshi.
Raghavendra is into dairy farming and had borrowed Rs 20 lac from Sujay Shetty, a resident near Thekkatte three years ago. He used to repay at the rate of Rs one lac per month and had already repaid more than Rs 30 lac. He could not pay for the last five years.
He was called to the house of interest business broker Mullikatte resident Ramakrishna Pai on Monday evening. As Raghavendra Joshi and his brother Rathnaker were on the way, the gang of Sujay Shetty and seven other men assaulted him. Later in a compromise meeting, the gang asked Raghavendra to repay the remaining portion of the loan.
Raghavendra Joshi’s family members consoled him till 11 pm that night. However, Raghavendra Joshi who could not bear the shock, wrote a death note explaining everything after everybody slept, swallowed sleeping pills brought for his father and went to sleep. The family members who saw that the son did not get up to milk the cattle as usual on Tuesday morning, went to wake him up and saw the sleeping pills scattered there. He was admitted to Kundapur private hospital.
A police case is registered in Gangolli police station.
