Bengaluru: Rain, thunder, lightning in several districts - seven lives lost

Bengaluru, Oct 16: On account of whirlwind that has taken shape over the surface of the sea at a time when monsoon is retreating, several places in the coast and southern interior Karnataka received rain and lightning besides thunder. On account of lightning, seven persons from Karnataka lost their lives on Monday October 15. The deceased include a mother-daughter duo and farmers.

A lady and her daughter working in the fields at Channahalli Thanda in Davanagere district died on account of lightning. A woman who was harvesting maize from the field at Jagalur too died of lightning. A farmer from Kallenahalli who was loading maize into the truck was electrocuted due to lightning. A farmer who was harvesting in his field in Naregal in Haveri district and farmer from Kunimellihalli in Savanur taluk were killed due to lightning. A farmer who was standing under a tree at
Byagavata in Siravara and two bullocks in Parashurampura, Chitradurga, were killed due to lightning.

The meteorological department has predicted rainfall to continue in coastal districts and also Chamarajanagara, Hassan, Chikkamagalur, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts till October 18.
