Banwal, Oct 16: Avvamma (44), wife of the late Mayyaddi from Sajipanadu village in the taluk died of Swine Flu on October 10 this year. Her daughter, Zubeena (22) is being treated for the same condition in the intensive care unit of a private hospital at Mangaluru. Another person from this village also is suspected to be suffering from this disease. He has been hospitalized with unexplained fever, but medical reports are yet to be received, said taluk health officer, Dr Deepa Prabhu.
Mayyaddi - Avvamma couple has left behind two daughters and two sons. Elder son and elder daughter are married, while younger son and daughter are yet to be married. Ten members of the family live together. Mayyaddi, who was the breadwinner of the family, suffered from suspected fever during September end this year. He was admitted into a private hospital but died there on October 1.
Mayyaddi's wife, Avvamma, too started to suffer from fever by then. She was admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru. She also suffered from asthma. After observing that her fever was not going away, the doctors got her tested and found that she was suffering from H1N1. She died on October 10.
In the meanwhile, daughter of the couple, Zubeena, who is pregnant, was admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru after suffering labour pain. She gave birth to a baby but the baby died within six days since childbirth. Te doctors confirmed that the child did not die of H1N1.
Zubeena too suffered from fever when in hospital and tests confirmed that she has been suffering from swine flu. She is in the intensive care unit of a hospital and it is said that her condition is improving.
Locals believe that Mayyaddi also would have died of swine flu but local medical reports had found that he did not suffer from this disease. However, he did not respond to treatments. The locals have expressed their resentment at the fact that no health department officials have visited this family or talked to them so far.
