Udupi: ‘Udupi Helpline’ for distributing food remaining during celebrations inaugurated

Udupi, Oct 12: ‘Udupi helpline’ a social service group formed by likeminded young men to deliver leftover food of social gatherings and celebrations was inaugurated at Lions Bhavan, Brahmagiri on Thursday October 11.

Congress district president Janardhan Thonse, BJP district president Mattaru Rathnaker Hegde and JDS district president Yogish V Shetty inaugurated the organization by keeping vessels in the vehicles transporting the remainder food.



BJP district president Mattaru Ratnaker Hegde said, "Eforts to create hunger free India are not complete. There are people who are unable to get a meal a day. On the other hand, 50% cooked food gets wasted. ‘Udupi Helpline’ will come forward to deliver such food to orphanages and poor people. This is commendable."

Udupi Badagabettu Credit Co-operative Society chief manager Indrali Jayaker Shetty said that erasing the hunger pangs of the hungry is our primary duty. "Therefore, everyone should join hands to distribute remainder food to orphanages and the poor."

Congress district president Janardhan Thonse said, "Reaching excess food to orphanages is not an easy task. However, determination will make the organization achieve the goal. May the society get its benefit."

JDS district president Yogish V Shetty wished success for the work. Udupi Lions club president Manoj Prabhu, Kaup municipal council’s Abdu Hameed, organization president Mahesh Poojary Hoode and chief secretary Rafik Kalyanpur were present.

Khaleef Keradi welcomed the gathering. Media in charge Steven Colaco Udyavar compered the programme.
