Mangaluru, Oct 11: The principal district session court in city has awarded life imprisonment for Dolphy Goveas (41) for the murder of his father Paul Goveas. The sentence was passed on Thursday, October 11.
Earlier on October 10, the court had found Dolphy guilty of murder of his father and also guilty of attempt to murder of his brother.
The court awarded life imprisonment for Dolphy Goveas under IPC section 302 (murder) and Rs 10,000 fine. If he fails to pay the amount, he will spend additional 6 months in jail.
He was also convicted under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) for which he given 10 years jail and Rs 10,000 fine.
The court also convicted Dolphy under IPC section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) for which he was given 10 years jail and a fine of Rs 10,000 fine. If he does not pay, he will spend 6 months in jail.
Court ordered that Dolphy should pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to brother Stany Goveas.
Dolphy was a resident of Ajekar. He was charged for murdering his father Paul Goveas (83) and murder attempt on his brother Stany Goveas (54) on April 14, 2017 at Shediguri Chaithanya Yuvaka Mandal at Hosabettu near Moodbidri.
Case was investigated by Moodbidri police inspector Ramachandra Naik. There was total of 36 witnesses. Dolphy Goveas was booked under IPC section 302, 307, 201, 427 and 447.
Kadaloor Satya Narayana Acharya was the judge who delivered the judgment.
Pushparaj Adyanthaya had argued for the prosecution.
