Ajman, Oct 11: Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private medical University in the Gulf region continues to expand its portfolio of strategic partnerships by tying up with internationally renowned universities and institutions. The latest addition to GMU’s strategic partners is the prestigious Beirut Arab University (BAU), Lebanon.
A MoU to jointly promote academic exchange between GMU and BAU and to develop academic and educational cooperation was recently signed between both the universities at the Gulf Medical University campus. The signatories were represented by Prof Hossam Hamdy, chancellor of GMU and Prof Dr Amr Galal El-Adawi, president of BAU.
According to the agreement, both the universities will promote exchange of faculty, researchers and students, in addition to joining hands for developing clinical research activities, collaborative research projects and joint publications, as well as exchange of academic materials.
Prof Hossam Hamdy said that the MoU will be activated across all colleges of GMU. “Deans of the corresponding colleges of both universities will periodically interact with each other to develop new programmes and joint programmes. The healthcare, academia and research components will be integrated along the lines of the Gulf Medical University Academic Health System (GMUAHS),” he explained. He added that the Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine (TRIPM), the advanced research facility under GMUAHS will be the focal point of joint initiatives and programmes in the field of cancer research.
Speaking about the agreement for academic partnership between GMU and BAU, Prof Dr AmrGalal El-Adawi said, “I am pleased to visit GMU and sign the agreement of collaboration with GMU in healthcare, academia and research. I hope this MoU will mutually benefit both the universities. We hope to have various joint programmes like seminars and workshops from time to time.”
BAU’s visiting delegation also met Dr Thumbay Moideen - founder, president Board of Trustees GMU and Akbar Moideen Thumbay – vice president of the healthcare division of Thumbay Group.

Gulf Medical University, Ajman is the biggest private medical university of the Gulf region, with prestigious regional and international collaborations and multiple global accreditations.
