Mangaluru, Oct 10: The World Mental Health Day with the theme “Young People and Mental Health in a Changing World” was observed with an awareness programme at Snehalaya hall, Pavoor, Manjeshwar on Wednesday, October 10, 2018.
Inaugurating the event, Fr Verghese, parish priest, Pavoor Church said, “In this modern world, due to a fast paced life and other activities, many lose mental stability. These days families are not having time for sharing and interacting with children due to which our young generation are facing mental issues. Every individual requires mental health to lead a good life. These kinds of programmes should reach the general public and awareness must be created among them on how to cope up with mental problems."
In his presidential speech, Joseph Crasta, founder of Snehalaya, explained about care and support to be given to the the mentally ill person and the required treatment.
Yashwanth Rasquinha shared his testimony. He was an inmate of Snehalaya and treated for mental illness. He is now leading a healthy life.
Addressing the students and youth, Dr Loveena Lobo, director, PG Studies, assistant professor, PG Dept of Social Work, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, spoke about Family and Mental Health. Dr Aruna Yedial Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Father Muller Medical College, Mangaluru, spoke about Youth and technology.
Moosa, Ward member, AKM Ashraf, President Manjeshwara Block Panchayat were present.
Around 179 students from St Aloysius ITI, Mangaluru, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, Hira Women’s College, Permannur, Mangalore University department of social work, Yenepoya University, Udaya Higher Secondary School, Manjeshwara, Govinda Pai memorial Govt College, participated in the programme.
Rajesh welcomed the dignitaries and students. Ashni C Johnson rendered vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Jacintha Pereira.
