Bengaluru, Oct 9: State BJP president and leader of the opposition in the state assembly, B S Yeddyurappa, scoffed at rumours about Prime Minister Narendra Modi choosing to fight the coming Lok Sabha (LS) election from a constituency in Karnataka.

Since some days, some media houses have been churning out reports about Modi's plan to fight election from one of the southern states in addition to Varanasi during the coming Lok Sabha election. They had also indicated that Karnataka could be the state from which he would fight the election. It was said that this was a plan towards increasing the popularity of BJP in southern states where it has formidable presence only in Karnataka.

When he was questioned about this information, Yeddyurappa, on Monday October 8, termed the reports as baseless. He also added that the core committee meeting being held on Wednesday October 10 is scheduled to pick party candidates for the bypoll, both for three Lok Sabha and two assembly constituencies.

Yeddyurappa asserted that there is not even an iota of truth in the news being circulated about Modi's intention to fight from Karnataka. The state party president is understood to be consulting various party leaders on the issue of fielding of the party candidates for the by election. He added that discussions on the candidature are continuing and after finalization of names at the core committee meeting on Wednesday evening, names would be sent to the central leadership for its nod.
