Mangaluru: Low air pressure - fishermen warned against fishing, rain likely

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 8: The meteorological department observed that the depression in air pressure created over the Arabian Sea has currently been moving towards Oman. It said that on account of its change of direction, the likelihood of it affecting Dakshina Kannada and other coastal Karnataka areas are remote.

The department however, noted that the depression might turn into cyclone if the waves gain in momentum. Therefore, it has warned the fishermen not go into the sea for fishing till October 10. During the next two days, the coastal districts might get rainfall coupled with thunder, it said.

The low air pressure area in the sea that has converted into cyclone is moving towards Kerala, the department warned. It said that this cyclone is likely to enter Kerala in the next 36 hours, which might result in thunderstorms in Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu.

The technology to predict weather change , wind , Rain etc are still in nascent stage throughout the world. Even developed countries have suffered due to imbalance in weather conditions. Former famous weatherman of Chennai, Mr.Ramanan too was unable to predict flooding in Chennai. He did not carry enough food to his office and was not with his wife and children for few days due to heavy downpour. Wind changes its course suddenly and all the inferences and observations done goes to bin. Can anyone of the above commentators give a foolproof prediction of weather of future. Let us make the Government to sanction you the same payout as done by others.

Hey IMD guys you don't know to predict exact rainfall and weather conditions. It looks as if you are just watching sky and space and predicting. All your predictions for last rainy season was wrong and flop show. It looks as if you are not well qualified guys in research. You couldn't predict the last Kerala and Kodagu floods in August where so many people lost lives and homes. May be you better take another fresh course in Meteorological survey before predicting and fooling people every time.Good luck.

Meteoriological department is always crying wolf. It needs a major shake up to get competent people in, who KNOW what they are talking about. Waste of public money paying their fat salaries!

Do some research on what meterologocal department is doing !!
they are dependant technology what ISRO is providing. they just can't look up to the sky and predict what is going to happen.
Imagine how many fishermen would have died just 10 years back.

A good car with a bad driver will meet with disaster sooner or later. No matter what the technology if there are idiots manning the equipment all you will get are bad results. You need to replace the idiots with competent personnel. Get the logic Ohm Swamy? Better change your "resistance" (ohms). 😊

@ Ohm Swamy, Mlore: Remember last year, when cyclone Ockhi hit Kerala and Met department had failed to warn the state. Even with all the fancy tech, you still need smart people to see the bigger picture.

It seems that Met dept is now trying to over-compensate for their previous goof-up by unnecessarily calling out cyclone warnings which will cause more panic than reassurance.
