Chitradurga, Oct 7: Challakere taluk in the district, which has often been reeling under drought situation, witnessed a strange phenomenon during this week. Flames were found leaping out from beneath the earth's surface at Manamainahatti village in this taluk, giving rise to sleepless nights to villagers.
Flames were seen coming out of agricultural land belonging to Thippeswamy from Manamainahatti village located within Nayakanahatti revenue division at around 4 pm on October 2. After the flames were seen for a few minutes, red hot liquid which looked like lava had appeared. Therefore, many believe that this could be the signal about the eruption of a mini volcano here.
An electric pole is located near the spot where flames were seen. Because of the heat of the flames, the electric pole looked like having been melted and bent, besides tilting to one side. Bescom officials immediately arrived at the spot and replaced the pole.
After owner of the land, Thippeswamy, informed them about this strange phenomenon, police visited the spot. They said that a piece of the electric pole which had melted has been sent to the laboratory of the department of geology for testing.
