Kundapur, Nov 4: The hearing in the case against suspected naxal Chennamma alias Suma, arrested by the Anti-Naxal Force and the policemen from near the Amasebail bus stand last year, concluded in the court of the additional civil judge here, on Monday November 3. Verdict in the case will be out on Wednesday November 5.
Advocate Prakashchandra Hegde, during the course of various hearings, has pointed out lacunae in the police investigations so far, like arresting only one among 12 suspects, not conducting identification parade, failure to produce her in the court on various occasions, defects in the chargesheet, non-filing of the report of the narco-analysis test conducted on her in the court etc.
Chennamma, who hails from Hemmige in Mundaragi taluk of Gadag district and lodged in Mysore sub-jail, was produced in the court on Monday amidst tight security. Chennamma has already recorded her statement.
It may be recalled that the other two cases the policemen had registered against Chennamma have already been dismissed by the fast track court. Even the appeal preferred by the police in the High Court against these verdicts, were dismissed. Therefore, the outcome of this case is crucial for the release of Chennamma, who is in jail for the last 18 months.
