Sullia, Nov 4: The Subrahmanya police, who intercepted a timber-laden truck at around noon on Monday November 3, seized the truck and the load of timber, apart from arresting two accused. One of the accused is said to have fled from the scene.
People allege that timber smuggling has been rampant in this part of district, which is surrounded by sanctuaries, with the connivance of the forest staff. The police had in a similar operation a few days ago, taken into possession a load of timber that was being smuggled out.

A man named Parameshwar Gowda from Ballakka was transporting logs of jack fruit tree valued at about Rs 1.5 lac without backed by any records.
