Bengaluru, Oct 4: Plans are underway to construct markets at Mysore Road, Tumakuru Road and Hosur Road on the model of the renovated KR Market, Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara, who is also in charge of Bengaluru Development, said in Bengaluru on Thursday.
He was speaking to reporters after inspecting various parts of KR Market today.
In order to reduce the heavy footfall KR Market, he said plans for setting up markets similar to that of KR Market in various parts of the city will be discussed with officials.
A grant will be kept aside in the budget after availing a nod for the same, he said.
The deputy chief minister took note of the disorder in KR Market and asked the officials to initiate actions against merchants who have been evading rent.
He also instructed the officials to use the building that was built exclusively for traders for parking or other works as it has been left unused by the merchants and locked and promised that KR Market will undergo renovation.
Dr Parameshwara directed officials to provide detailed information about the merchants are evading rent and the BBMP property in and around KR Market, within 15 days.
Mayor Gangabike, deputy mayor Ramila Umashankar and City police commissioner Sunil Kumar were present.
Officer suspended
The Deputy Chief Minister was visibly annoyed when Market Deputy Commissioner Munilaxmi had no information about the department to which the shops in Market belong.
He reprimanded the lady for the lack of information on her own responsibilities and told media persons that the officer has been suspended.
He instructed the officers concerned to put an end to ‘meter interest’ that is prevalent in the market.
Dr Parameshwara also took the officers concerned to task for not segregating waste despite the existence of a segregation centre in KR Market.
He ordered them to provide details on reason behind centre's shut down within a week and warned them of dire consequences if the information is not furnished.
He instructed the officials to put the old, unclaimed vehicles in the market underground parking lot on auction.
