Mangaluru, Oct 4: Heavy rains lashed Mangaluru and surrounding places on Thursday October 4.
The rains began at around 4.00 pm leaving the city in a shambles with non-stop showers. The skies in the city remained engulfed in dark clouds with predictions of more rains in next few hours.
Earlier the meteorological department had forecast the possibility of a low pressure area building up above the Arabian Sea turning into cyclonic storm and hitting coastal Karnataka. It had predicted heavy rainfall in south India and coastal areas of Karnataka. It had also advised fishermen who are in the sea at present to rush back to the shore before October 5.
The department had stated that because of the slump in air pressure over the sea, the sea will turn turbulent and waves will gain enormous size and power. It had asked the fishermen to stay away from activities in the sea from October 5 to 10.
The vehicles in city are moving with lights on due to darkness.
The children from schools are yet to reach home due to the rains.
The weather was cloudy since 3 pm.
