Mangalore, Nov 4: A one-day training camp for Haj pilgrims was held on Monday November 3, organized by the Dakshina Kannada district minority Congress committee.
In his inaugural message, Qazi Abdullah Musliar Chembarikka said that Haj is the largest annual pilgrimage in the world.
It is an obligation that must be carried out by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so, at least once in their lifetime. It is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to God, he added.
Abdullah Musliar said that the Haj is associated with the life of Prophet Mohammed, but the ritual of pilgrimage to Mecca, is considered by Muslims to date back to the time of Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail, prominent figures in both Islam and in Judaism. Pilgrims join processions of hundreds of thousands of people, who simultaneously converge on Mecca for the week of the Haj, and perform a series of rituals.
Vehemently condemning terrorism, Qazi said Islam never tolerates violence. It is a religion of peace. ‘The Haj experience promotes peaceful co-existence, equality, and harmony. It increases belief in equality and harmony among ethnic groups and Islamic sects and that ‘Hajis’ (those who have performed the Haj) show increased belief in peace, and in equality and harmony among adherents of different religions,’ added Abdullah Musliar.
S B Darimi, Bekala Ibrahim Musliar, Ismail, G Aboobacker, Ganesh Rao, Haji Hamid Kandak, M G Hegde, Abdul Rasheed Zaini Kamil Saqafi, and Muhiuddin Bava, were among those present on the occasion.
