Mangaluru, Oct 3: Richard Castelino, a coffee planter and a prominent member of United Youngsters passed away on Tuesday, October 2 in city.
Richard was 71. He was the son of lte Ligoury Castelino and late Mary D’Silva of Kulshekar. He is survived by his beloved wife Prescilla, his two children Rathan and Priya.
Richard was known as s philanthropist and social worker. He was a best friend of Konkani singing legend Wilfy Rebimbus.
Richard completed 50 golden years of working in his estate Maithalkhan Estate near Kalasa and resided in Kulshekar in city.
Richard Castelino was the backbone of United Youngsters and a strong lover of Konkani language and music. His association with Wilfy Rebimbus began in 1970. It continued at United Youngsters. This bond was strengthened further when Wilfy and Meena made Richard and Prescilla Castelino the Godparents of their son Vishwas Rebimbus.
Richard was always a part of the Wilfy Nite troupe and took active part in the production of Wilfy’s cassettes and all the shows. It was in Maithalkhan Estate where Wilfy wrote some of his best compositions. One can talk volumes on their friendship of over 40 years that they were there and accompanied each other through thick and thin, the various ups and downs in their lives.
Wilfy dedicated his Vinsnar Podam book – ninth volume released at the time of 100th Wilfy Nite to his dearest friend Richard.
