Mangaluru, Oct 2: City Police team emerged champion in 'Brand Mangaluru' cricket trophy held at Adyar cricket ground on Tuesday, October 2. The tournament was jointly organised by District Working Journalist Union, Mangaluru Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust.
City Police team beat Deputy Commissioner XI team in the final and emerged champions.
In the final battle, batting first, DC XI score 26 runs in 6 overs. In reply, City Police team chased the target comfortably to be champions of 'Brand Mangaluru' trophy.
The tournament involved six teams namely City Police team, District Commissioner XI, Sahyadri President XI, District Police, City Media and Rural Media.
Individual prizes:
Man of the match: Ranjan from City Police team
Man of the series: Rohith from city Police team
Best Batsmen: Dheeraj from Rural Media
Best Bowler: Karunakar from DC XI
In the prize distribution ceremony, police commissioner T R Suresh, DCP Uma Prashanth, chairman of Sahyadri Education Institution Manjunath Bhandary, international athlete Sunil Shetty, president of District Working Journalist Union Srinivas Indaje, vice president Dayanand Kukkaje, secretary Ibrahim Adkastala and others were present.
Secretary of District Working Journalist Union, Jithendra Kundeshwar compered the programme.
Meanwhile police commissioner T R Suresh announced Rs 10,000 for winners City Police team.
For hitting high number of sixes and taking highest wickets, Dheeraj and Ranjan were given Rs 500 and Rs 200 each by Suddi Bidugade team.
Earlier, DCP Uma Prashanth, ASP Sajeeth inaugurated the event, in the presence of chairman of Sahyadri Education Institution Manjunath Bhandary, president of District Working Journalist Union Srinivas Indaje, secretary of District Working Journalist Union, Jithendra Kundeshwar and others also present.
