Udupi, Oct 2: District in-charge minister Dr Jayamala faced embarrassment at Brahmagiri Congress Bhavan in Udupi after her party activists questioned her for not taking any stand on the issue of police lathi-charge during Bharat bandh recently.
Jayamala had come to the Congress office to attend a programme at 4pm here on Tuesday October 2. Some of the Congress activists who were lathi-charged by the police on the day of Bharat bandh questioned her for not taking any stand being the district in-charge minister and party leader, when her party leaders were beaten up.
Speaking to reporters, Jayamala said, "I indeed spoke to the superintendent of police (SP) who lathi -charged some of our leaders. The SP had clarified that he had to resort to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control,"
She also said that she did not have any information regarding Bharat bandh nor received any invite. After getting embarrassed at the venue, she left the place in hurry and headed towards Circuit House.
Congress activists Vishwas Amin, Manjunath Uppoor and Ramesh Kanchan were present.
Earlier speaking to reporters, Jayamala said that the state government is trying its best to control farmer suicides. When reporters questioned her why she was not addressing the issues of the district being a district in-charge minister, she said that she has two portfolios to handle and while in Bengaluru she has maximum to address issues related to Udupi.
